In vietnamese marriage custom, the day of the wedding is considered the start of a new book in a child’s career and is marked by several ceremonial rites Some of them are based on historical ideas and others are influenced by Confucian and Buddhist beliefs.

For illustration, before the festival, the groom’s home will browse the bride’s relatives and ask for their permission to take the girl away. The couple’s representatives may provide gifts in special boxes adorned with red material: hashish leaves and areca forearm fruit, cakes and jewels for the bride, as well as a baked piglet to depict good fortune for the couple

Traditionally, pre- arranged couples in Vietnam were frequent as they allowed people to group sources and protect their assets. Nowadays, this practice is n’t as common, however, arranged relationships still play an important role in Vietnamese culture. On the day of the wedding, the newlyweds will wear their ao dai ( traditional dresses for women ) and suits for men. They will also wearing matching accessories and a plant king.

The most prominent celebration of the day is the Teas and Candle Ceremony, which is both a proper meeting between two families as well as a way to honor the lovers’ mothers and ancestors. The newlyweds will serve Green Tea or Chrysanthemum Tea to their guests, starting with the oldest members of the family. They will then receive money and jewelry from the guests as a way to show their appreciation. The ceremony ends with the lighting of a Dragon and Phoenix candle to officially symbolise the fusion of families.
